Travelling to my husband’s childhood home is always something I look forward to at least once a year. It is a peaceful pause from the downtown lights, traffic, and raceful tendencies. Here, people move slowly. They paint life in softer dream-like tones. We pick berries in the green green forrests, take dips in the lake during mid-summer nights, cruise our boats with friends you’ve known since you were 2, ride free horses without reigns, and admire nature as it blossoms in seasons.

The blissful quietness and vintaged beauty of smalltown Åmål, is my home away from home.

I recently moved out of my parent’s home for the first time at 26 years old; and into a small duplex with my husband. But call me old-fashioned, also because I love old fashioned décor. Many of the pieces in my new place were bought from yard sales, flea markets, clearance racks and restored to fit our style and personalities. The older the home piece, the better. Below are just some of the samples that make our restoration kitchen simple, cozy, and certainly affordable!

Mannequin

This gorgeous Mannequin was given to me by my mother who bought it from a neighborhood yard sale. The rustic-inspired mirror was bought on clearance at Home Goods for $20 (twenty dollars)

Tin Storage

This tin storage was purchased at the Melrose Trade Post (Flea Market) at $30 (thirty dollars)

Soap Dish & Tray

This vintage soap dish & tray was purchased at a neighborhood yard sale for $1 (one dollar) each.

milk bottle & cereal bowl

Cereal bowl purchased on sale from Anthropologie for $4 (four dollars)

(can you spot the ears?) :p

chairs (before)

These chairs (with dining table) were purchased at a yard sale and given to me by my mother. They originally came in a glossy auburn color with velvet green seating. We restored it by painting over them and replacing the cushion fabric from Anna’s Linens.
